Frequently Asked Questions

Quick Research Lookup

What counts as a quick lookup?
One focused question. If your request needs multiple lines of investigation or turns into something bigger, I'll let you know and quote you for the appropriate service before doing any additional work.

What if you don't find anything?
You're paying for my time, tools, and expertise. A negative result is still a result. You'll receive a summary of what was searched and what was ruled out.

How fast will I hear back?
I'll confirm availability before starting. Delivery is within 24 hours of my confirmation, not from the time you book.

Family History & Genealogy Deep Dive

How far back can you go?
It depends on the records available for your family's region and time period. U.S. families can often be traced to the 1700s or earlier. I'll be upfront about what's realistic for your specific case.

Can you help with DNA results?
Yes. I work with GEDmatch, DNA Painter, and the major testing platforms to analyze matches and build genetic genealogy connections.

What if I barely know anything about my family?
That's fine. Some of my best work has started with almost nothing. I once reconstructed full identities from a single postcard with no address on it.

Provenance Research & Historical Ephemera Investigation

What kinds of items can you research?
Postcards, letters, photographs, documents, maps, trade cards, advertising ephemera, personal papers — basically anything with enough detail to start pulling a thread. If it has a name, a date, a location, or an image, I can usually work with it.

What do you need from me?
High-resolution scans or clear photographs of the item (front and back). Any context you already have — where you found it, who it belonged to, what you know or suspect. The more starting points, the better, but I've worked from almost nothing before.

Can you authenticate or appraise items?
I research provenance and historical context, not monetary value. My work can support an appraisal by establishing age, origin, and ownership history, but I'd recommend a certified appraiser for valuation.

OSINT & Digital Footprint Investigation

What do you need from me to start?
A name, username, email address, phone number, or any combination. The more starting points, the deeper I can go, but I've worked cases that started with almost nothing.

Is this legal?
Yes. I only use publicly available information and legal investigative techniques. No hacking, no unauthorized access, no pretexting.

What if you don't find anything?
I'll tell you. You'll still receive a report documenting what was searched and what was ruled out, which has its own value.

Background & Due Diligence Research

How is this different from a standard background check?
Standard checks pull from a single database. I cross-reference multiple sources, look for what's missing, and investigate inconsistencies. It's investigative research, not a database pull.

Can this be used in legal proceedings?
My reports document sources and methods clearly. Many clients have used them to support legal filings, but I'm a researcher, not an attorney. I'd recommend having your legal team review how to use the findings.

What's your turnaround for urgent requests?
Contact me. I can sometimes accommodate rush timelines depending on scope.
